WELCOME TO SILVER LAKE!

Silver Lake offers a cosmopolitan, sophisticated lifestyle in a setting that is conducive to a healthy, restful and enviable lifestyle.

Community Overview

Silver Lake is a mere hop of 5 miles north of Downtown L.A. and 17 miles northeast of LAX. This L.A. suburb is bordered to the southeast by Echo Park, to the southwest by Westlake and to the west by East Hollywood. Los Feliz is situated to its north.

The L.A. suburb of Silver Lake was once called Ivanhoe by a Scottish resident but changed its name to honor the city reservoir around which the district was built – and which continues to dominate (and offer respite to) the community to this day. Silver Lake has long been distinct for its urbane lifestyle and many notable, famous residents.

The Neighborhood

The most influential neighborhood in Silver Lake surrounds its large body of water, Silver Lake Reservoir, which offers a popular 2.25-mile loop for runners and walkers. The prime real estate around the reservoir is referred to by realtors as the “Moreno Highlands”.

Silver Lake’s position offers amazing hilltop views, including the nearby San Gabriel Mountains, whilst its commercial hub of energy is Sunset Junction, a bustling, walkable strip along Sunset Boulevard with dozens of trendy shops. Equally vibey and hip as hell is the Eastside of Silver Lake.

The Sights

Silver Lake may be the personification of funky charm filled to the rafters with hipsters and the hipster lifestyle. It offers quirky stores galore coupled with a vibrant music and arts scene – little wonder that Silver Lake was named the nation’s “#1 Hipster Neighborhood” by Forbes magazine!

Silver Lake is famous for its (not so) secret stairs, which are historic steps used by locals for fitness or a healthy stroll and include the vibrantly painted Micheltorena Stairs (at 3400 Sunset Boulevard) and Swan Stairs (at Westerly Terrace and Swan Place). Silver Lake Farmers' Market is a terrific market for produce – and people-watching!

Lifestyle

The Lifestyle

Silver Lake offers so much in terms of places to eat and a great night out. You can start off with happy hour at L&E Oyster Bar’s large upstairs patio and then go on to enjoy the best of Italian at a local favorite, the bistro Alimento.

Later that same night you can catch a rock show at Silver Lake’s mainstay indie venue, The Satellite. Formerly known as Spaceland, this sprawling club space remains L.A.’s leading shrine to all things indie. Or you can wolf down some more grub at a food truck parked near the splendid Chandelier Tree, a sycamore with 30 suspended chandeliers illuminated at night – only in Silver Lake, right?

Other great places to eat and be merry in Los Feliz include:

  • Blossom – for Vietnamese food that’s good and comforting
  • Botanica Restaurant & Market – healthy eating for the healthy living
  • Bowery Bungalow – casual and modern Middle Eastern fare
  • Daw Yee Myanmar Corner – unique Burmese dishes to savor
  • Millie's Café – unpretentious, classic breakfast and brunch food
